Skeletal remains found in a vacant lot off Greens Road have turned a quiet patch of north Houston into an active crime scene, as police and forensic experts work to sort out who the person was and how they died.
Houston police said the discovery was made around 4:35 p.m. Monday at 1003 Greens Road, according to Click2Houston. HPD homicide detectives and investigators from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences responded and confirmed the remains were human. Officials said full identification and a determination of cause of death will depend on lab testing that could take weeks.
Greens Road corridor context
The find adds another unsettling entry to a year of heavy police activity along the Greens Road corridor. A deadly shooting tied to an unauthorized car meet in February prompted a major homicide investigation, according to ABC13. Prior Greens Road bloodshed coverage by Hoodline has highlighted similar violent incidents and long-standing neighborhood worries over vacant properties.
Residents and community leaders say the latest discovery reinforces their calls for tighter oversight of empty lots in the area and faster responses to illegal dumping and trespassing, which they argue make it easier for crime to take root out of public view.
How to reach investigators
HPD is asking anyone who might know what happened to contact the Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477, per the Houston Police Department. Authorities have not released the decedent's identity while the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences continues its testing, Click2Houston reported. Officials said they plan to provide updates as the investigation moves forward.
