A neighborhood argument over property on the 200 block of 27th Avenue North in North Minneapolis ended in deadly gunfire Thursday night, according to Minneapolis police. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police said a suspect was taken into custody at the scene less than 20 minutes after officers were called. Investigators remained on-site into the night, combing the area for evidence as the case stayed active.

As reported by KARE 11, the confrontation started as a dispute between two men over property, then escalated into a shooting. What began as an argument that should have stopped at harsh words instead turned into yet another fatal incident in a neighborhood already on edge.

Police: Property Dispute Turned Violent

The killing folds into a string of recent violence in north Minneapolis, where residents and city officials have been wrestling with recurring gun crimes this year. Earlier in the summer, coverage of another deadly case underscored how routine these tragedies have started to feel. In May, KSTP reported on a homicide that left a 16-year-old dead in the same part of the city.

City leaders have responded by trying to speed up and sharpen investigations. In May, the City of Minneapolis launched the Firearm Assault Shoot Team, known as FAST, to give shootings faster, dedicated investigative attention and to improve clearance rates, the city announced.

Suspect Arrested Minutes Later

Police said officers quickly zeroed in on a suspect, detaining the person less than 20 minutes after the initial 911 call, as KARE 11 reported. Authorities have not yet released the name of the man who died or the person arrested, citing the ongoing investigation.
