What started as a lookout alert for an armed robbery suspect’s car turned into a chaotic Monday morning pursuit through Northeast D.C., ending on C Street NE with three people in handcuffs and a gun pulled from the vehicle, according to authorities.
How the chase unfolded
According to WJLA, the episode began after the Metropolitan Police Department broadcast a lookout for a vehicle wanted in connection with an armed robbery. A citizen then reported seeing a car matching that description speeding along East Capitol Street NE.
U.S. Park Police officers located the vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over and led officers on a pursuit through Northeast Washington. The chase ended in the 2000 block of C Street NE when the suspect car became inoperable.
Officers say the suspect vehicle hit five other cars during the pursuit. One person in those collisions suffered minor injuries, according to police. After the car stopped, the driver attempted to run but was caught, and officers arrested the driver and two passengers at the scene without further incident.
Investigators recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle, along with property believed to belong to at least one robbery victim, police said.
Park Police activity and pursuit policy
The gun recovery comes as U.S. Park Police have been ramping up enforcement in the District. According to the National Park Service, a June task-force operation netted seven firearms in a 24‑hour span. Officials framed the seizures as part of Operation Make DC Safe and Beautiful.
At the same time, local coverage has spotlighted changes to Park Police chase policies. The agency has loosened some pursuit restrictions, a shift that has contributed to several lengthy pursuits across the region, per NBC4.
Investigation underway
According to WJLA, investigators recovered property inside the car believed to belong to at least one armed robbery victim. Authorities have not yet released the names of the people taken into custody or announced any charges.
The investigation remains active, and officials say additional details will be released as the case moves forward.
