Oak Ridge is throwing a full-scale birthday bash for America tonight, Saturday, July 4, 2026, with its long-running Independence Day concert and a city-organized fireworks show at A.K. Bissell Park. The Oak Ridge Community Band will set up in the pavilion, and a professional pyrotechnic display is slated to light up the sky after dark. City officials are urging attendees to follow posted signs and listen to directions from police and event staff, since a big crowd is expected.

What to expect tonight

According to the City of Oak Ridge, music is slated to kick off around 7:30 p.m., with fireworks expected at about 9:45 p.m. The pyrotechnics will be launched from the Oak Ridge High School field across the street from the park. The city notice says all of A.K. Bissell Park will be open to the public and encourages attendees to tune in to Merle FM 96.7 for the coordinated soundtrack.

The Oak Ridge Community Band event listing puts its concert start at 7:15 p.m. and notes that food vendors are scheduled to open at 6 p.m. So whether the first note hits at 7:15 p.m. or closer to the city’s posted 7:30 p.m. time, residents are being advised to show up early to snag a good spot on the lawn. Both the band and the city remind attendees to bring chairs or blankets for outdoor seating.

Traffic, parking and safety

Per the City of Oak Ridge, parking will be available at Oak Ridge High School. Parking along the Oak Ridge Turnpike right-of-way will not be allowed during the fireworks display.

The Oak Ridge Turnpike will be temporarily shut down between Tulane Avenue and Robertsville Road for the show, and officers will be on hand to direct traffic and help move vehicles out after the finale to cut down on gridlock.

Trash and city services

The city’s official Facebook post notes that the Waste Connections convenience center on Warehouse Road will be closed on July 4 and will reopen on Sunday afternoon, July 5.

For regular hours and location details, Waste Connections lists the convenience center at 400 Warehouse Road, with Sunday hours from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

City officials say to enjoy the music and fireworks but leave personal fireworks at home, since discharging fireworks within Oak Ridge is prohibited without a permit. Plan for summer heat by bringing water and a way to find shade, expect heavy foot traffic in and around the park, and arrive early if you want a prime stretch of grass for the show.
