Tavola, the upscale Italian restaurant in Houston’s Post Oak neighborhood, quietly closed on July 9, 2026, ending a run of less than three years in the high-profile space. The Bastion Collection, the hospitality group behind the restaurant, posted a brief note on social media thanking staff and guests and confirming that a new concept will eventually take over the dining room.
Owner Cites Long-Term Strategy
As reported by CultureMap Houston, the group’s announcement thanked “our team, who brought heart to every service” and offered “grazie for being part of our story.” The post added that the company is “excited for what comes next” and said more details about the future of the space would be shared soon.
How Tavola Arrived On The Scene
Tavola opened in December 2023 as a collaboration between Berg Hospitality and The Bastion Collection, taking over the downstairs portion of La Table, according to the Houston Chronicle. Eater Houston reported that the two groups first announced plans to split the La Table building in 2022 and described Tavola as an upscale Italian brasserie with a lively bar.
Staff Redeployments And What’s Next
Bastion marketing director Abby Deutz told CultureMap Houston that the closure fits the company’s long-term Houston strategy and that Tavola’s team, including the chef and general manager, are temporarily working at Le Jardinier or Cafe Leonelli while they help stand up the new concept. Deutz called the transition “an opportunity to introduce concepts that further strengthen our presence in the neighborhood.”
Bastion’s Houston Footprint
The Bastion Collection still operates Michelin-starred Le Jardinier and Cafe Leonelli at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and lists Bar Moon and private-events venue Soleil at 1800 Post Oak among its Houston concepts on its The Bastion Collection page. Bar Moon is currently hosting a summer residency from Hidden Omakase after that restaurant’s temporary closure, according to the Houston Press, and Bastion says those upstairs concepts are not affected by Tavola’s closure.
Bastion says it will share details about the replacement restaurant in the coming weeks and characterizes the move as a continued investment in Houston. For now, the Post Oak dining room remains closed while the group plans the next phase for the space.
