In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a fast-moving fire in Folsom tore through an outbuilding and then jumped to a neighboring house, destroying one home and leaving a second with only limited damage. Fire crews evacuated residents, called in mutual-aid help and contained the multi-structure blaze. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, was taken to a hospital and later released.
How the Fire Spread
According to the Folsom Fire Department, the blaze started around 1:15 a.m. in an outbuilding behind a home, then quickly pushed into a neighbor’s backyard, garage and attic. That escalation triggered a second-alarm response and brought in mutual-aid crews to help keep the flames from spreading farther into the neighborhood. KCRA reported that firefighters had to contend with multiple separate attic spaces packed with stored belongings, and that roughly 43 personnel ultimately battled the fire.
Response and Injuries
CBS Sacramento reported that everyone inside the affected homes made it out safely, with no civilian injuries. The outlet noted that the firefighter who was hurt sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The fire was reported in the Dunstable Way area, near Oak Avenue Parkway and East Bidwell Street, while crews worked to secure the scene and mop up remaining hot spots.
Official Statements and Next Steps
In a public update, the Folsom Fire Department said crews moved quickly to contain the blaze, confirming that one home was significantly damaged and a neighboring house sustained only limited damage. The department added that the injured firefighter was treated and released from the hospital. Officials publicly thanked mutual-aid partners, including the Sacramento Regional Fire/EMS Communications Center, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the El Dorado Hills Fire Department, for assisting on the call. Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire, according to the Folsom Fire Department.
