A pre-dawn fire tore through Jilberto's Taco Shop along Highway 76 in Pauma Valley today, leaving the building in ruins and briefly choking off a key route through the area. Fire crews rushed in just after 4:30 AM to battle heavy flames, only to be pulled back when the structure became too unstable to safely enter. Despite the intensity of the blaze, authorities reported no injuries. A multi-agency response converged on the scene, and a stretch of SR-76 was temporarily shut down while firefighters worked.
According to 10News, units responded to 15265 Highway 76 shortly after 4:30 AM. Investigation Underway
The San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit has been called in to determine how the fire started and whether anything criminal was involved. As outlined by the San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit, the team handles arson and suspicious-fire probes and coordinates forensic work with partnering fire agencies.

The fire and resulting closure briefly turned the already busy Highway 76 corridor into a traffic headache for morning commuters and nearby businesses. Lanes were shut down while crews knocked back the flames and kept people clear of the unstable structure. 10News reported that traffic was allowed back through by about 8:30 AM as the immediate hazard was brought under control.
