Santa Clara police are asking the public to help identify a man accused of a violent sexual assault that happened yesterday, just after 1 AM at Carmichael Park. Police say the victim, an adult woman, was found in the park, and the attacker ran off on foot into a nearby condominium complex. Detectives are urging neighbors and local businesses to review surveillance footage that may show the suspect or the path he took as he left the park.
What the police say
As posted by the Santa Clara Police Department, officers responded at about 1:30 AM to Carmichael Park and located an adult female victim. The release, prepared by Captain Mike Crescini, states that an unknown male eluded arrest after fleeing on foot and was last seen jumping a fence into an adjacent condominium complex on Benton Street. The department has asked residents and nearby businesses to review footage from about 12:30 AM to 2:00 AM and to contact Detective Sergeant Ogg at 408-615-4823, the non-emergency line at 408-615-5580, or the anonymous tip line at 408-615-4TIP (4847) with any information.

Where it happened
The incident was reported at Earl R. Carmichael Park, located at 3445 Benton Street, according to the City of Santa Clara parks listing. The city’s police contact page also lists the department’s police building at 601 El Camino Real and repeats the non-emergency and tip numbers for people who want to provide information.
Why police ask for footage
Investigators often rely on door-bell, business, and street-level cameras to identify suspects and verify timelines in late-night assaults. For example, the San Francisco Police Department recently issued a similar public appeal, underscoring how community video can be critical to an active investigation.
