New Orleans restaurateur Kyle Brechtel is taking over 3607 Magazine Street with a new project called Charlotte's, stepping into the space vacated by tasting-menu restaurant Étoile. The concept is pitched as an all-day neighborhood hangout, polished but still low-key enough for regulars, with plans to roll from breakfast and brunch through lunch, happy hour and dinner. Brechtel says the name is a tribute to his teenage daughter, and the opening is targeted for October 2026.
As reported by NOLA.com, Brechtel has purchased the Magazine Street building and is reworking the former tasting-menu room into a more relaxed, come-anytime restaurant. Instead of a single set-menu service, Charlotte's is slated to cover multiple meal periods throughout the day. NOLA.com also notes Brechtel's own shorthand for the idea, calling the restaurant "polished but approachable."
Brechtel's Local Footprint
Brechtel Hospitality already runs a mix of neighborhood-friendly and entertainment-driven spots in New Orleans. The group operates Copper Vine, Vintage Rock Club and Fulton Alley, and also manages franchise operations for Walk-On's and Small's Sliders, according to Biz New Orleans. That blend of wine bars, event venues and franchised brands has meant plenty of practice turning historic or unexpected properties into active dining rooms. Charlotte's is set to bring a stronger daytime rhythm into that portfolio.
Menu Direction And The Chef
Chef Amy Mehrtens is developing the menu for Charlotte's, and the NOLA.com report says she is leaning on French staples such as crepes and steak frites. Mehrtens is listed as executive chef on Copper Vine's site and has previous experience at Commander’s Palace and Café Adelaide. The reporting points to French-leaning classics that will be adjusted for a neighborhood crowd rather than a formal tasting-room setting.
Magazine Street's Changing Mix
Magazine Street has been reshuffling its restaurant lineup this year as operators swap concepts and move into long-running storefronts. New Orleans CityBusiness reported the recent closing of Coquette after an 18-year run, and Axios has tracked a broader wave of new openings and replacements across the city. Charlotte's is expected to slot into that evolving scene as another option for both daytime and evening diners.
Brechtel filed a federal trademark application for CHARLOTTE'S in April 2026, a public sign that the project is moving forward; the filing appears in trademark databases such as Justia/USPTO records. City licensing data lists Café Dupont Inc., doing business as Étoile, at 3607 Magazine Street, confirming the former tenant in public records. Brechtel is aiming for an October 2026 opening, and updates on reservations and a firm debut date are expected closer to launch.
