A late-night fight inside a Rock Hill home ended in gunfire, leaving a 36-year-old woman clinging to life and another woman facing serious felony charges, according to police. Investigators say the victim was hit by a single shot and rushed to a hospital in critical condition, while detectives worked through the night to sort out what happened.
According to Queen City News, officers were called late last Friday to a residence in the 1200 block of Crawford Road near Irwin Street after reports of a fight. The outlet reports that the 36-year-old woman was struck by a single round and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Rock Hill Police Department said. Investigators arrested a woman at the scene and took her into custody for questioning as they secured the area.
A city grappling with recent gun violence
This shooting lands in a city already on edge over gun violence. WBTV reported in February on a shootout that killed a 4-year-old and a teenager, and WSOC covered a May killing of a 19-year-old that police linked to surveillance footage and earlier gunfire. Those cases have already kept the Rock Hill Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division busy, and now detectives are adding this latest shooting to their growing caseload.
Arrest and charges
Police arrested Jassmine Evans and charged her with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to Queen City News. The report states that Evans was denied bond on July 4 and remains in custody pending formal charging. Prosecutors and court records had not posted an indictment by publication time, and investigators said the inquiry is still active.
What’s next
Rock Hill police said detectives are continuing to process the scene, interview witnesses and comb through any available video as they work to understand what sparked the violence. The charges Evans faces are serious felonies and carry significant penalties if she is convicted, and police emphasized that an arrest is only an allegation until the case is resolved in court. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rock Hill Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
