A popular West Side Jim’s restaurant is facing another health inspection after inspectors found live pests near food-service areas, expired items, and heavy grease and food debris throughout parts of the diner.
The Jim’s at Potranco Road and Loop 1604 received an 87 during a July 10 inspection, according to KSAT. Metro Health documented eight violations and ordered the restaurant to undergo a reinspection.
Inspectors Found Pests Near Key Kitchen Areas
The inspection report cited live pests near the grill, ice machine, and hand sink. Inspectors also found multiple food items beyond their use-by dates, while floors and tables reportedly had an excessive amount of grease and food debris.
San Antonio’s Metropolitan Health District makes food-establishment inspection reports available through the City of San Antonio. The restaurant’s 87 falls in the city’s 80-to-89 range, which KSAT identifies as a B score ranging from acceptable to marginal.
Manager Says Restaurant Is Cleaning Up
When KSAT visited the diner, a worker was seen using bare hands to place toast on a plate and grab a pancake from another plate. The station said its cameras were not allowed past the kitchen doors.
The restaurant manager told KSAT that “everything’s clean” and said the business was doing everything it could to address customer concerns. The manager also said Metro Health had already returned for a reinspection earlier this month, though the report did not detail the outcome.
Inspection Lands As Jim’s Tries To Rebuild
The inspection comes as Jim’s works to revive parts of its longtime San Antonio footprint. In January, the San Antonio Report reported that the family-run chain was restoring 24-hour service at some locations and considering future expansion.
For now, the Potranco-area diner remains open, with the health score and reinspection placing a fresh spotlight on the basic kitchen practices customers rarely get to see.
