San José detectives say a months-long gang investigation has culminated in the arrests of eight suspects, including several juveniles, tied to a string of alleged gang-related crimes and a violent April attack that nearly killed a man on the city’s south side.

According to the San José Police Media Relations, the coordinated operation kicked off on June 24 and unfolded over several days into late June and early July, stretching from San José to Mountain View and even as far as Modoc County. The suspects now face allegations that include gang-related attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.

What Police Say

In a press release, the San José Police Department said detectives with the Gang Investigations Unit identified primary suspects and secured multiple arrest and search warrants as part of a broader probe into gang activity.

Investigators credited help from local, state and federal partners and said those search warrants turned up suspected gang indicia and other evidence. Some of that material, they said, links the group to a separate violent assault in Sunnyvale. The operation formally began on June 24 and led to arrests in San José, Mountain View and other jurisdictions.

Who Was Arrested

San José police identified four adult suspects: 19-year-old Moses Martinez, 21-year-old Demetrius Martinez, 18-year-old Alexander Illescas and 50-year-old William Dehoyos, along with three juvenile males whose names were not released, according to San José Police Media Relations.

Illescas was arrested in Mountain View during the June 24 sweep. Dehoyos was taken into custody in San José on June 29. A 17-year-old suspect was arrested in Modoc County on July 1. Police say the adult suspects were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, while the juveniles were taken to the county juvenile hall.

The April 4 Attack

According to the San José Police Department, the most serious allegation centers on an April 4 attempted murder outside a business in the 3800 block of Seven Trees Boulevard.

Police say six suspects approached an adult male outside the business and violently assaulted him. The victim suffered major, life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. Detectives say the motive is still under investigation as they continue to process evidence.

Investigation And Evidence

The Gang Investigations Unit said detectives spent months building the case before moving in with coordinated searches at several residences. During those searches, officers reported recovering suspected gang indicia along with additional material they believe ties the group to a separate violent assault in Sunnyvale.

The department credited the multi-agency effort for getting the suspects into custody and emphasized that the investigation is still active, with more evidence review and follow-up work underway.

Charges, Custody And How To Help

Police say the suspects face allegations that include gang-related attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery. The arrests are allegations, and the cases will move through the Santa Clara County court system.
