Gunfire echoing out of a West Seattle greenbelt late Monday has neighbors once again on edge along a stretch of SW Brandon that is starting to feel uncomfortably familiar with the sound of shots.
Seattle police say several 911 callers reported hearing gunfire in the brush near 26th Avenue SW and SW Brandon Street after a vehicle pulled up and four people walked into the greenbelt. Witnesses told officers the group fired shots from inside the greenery, then headed back to the waiting car and drove off.
Officers searched the area, collected evidence in the greenbelt and documented the scene. No victims, property damage or suspects were found, and no arrests were reported. The call nonetheless added to growing anxiety for residents who say late-night gunfire is becoming a recurring soundtrack along this corridor.
Police released a brief dispatch summary. As reported by West Seattle Blog, “At 1243 hours [Monday], several 911 callers reported hearing shots being fired in the greenbelt area near 26 Ave SW / SW Brandon St.” Officers contacted witnesses who guided them into the green space where evidence was located before the subjects re-entered the vehicle and left.
Recurring Reports Along SW Brandon
This latest burst of gunfire is part of a pattern neighbors and police logs have been tracking in the Delridge–High Point area, particularly around SW Brandon. Officers recently recovered shell casings near 29th Avenue SW and SW Brandon after multiple 911 calls and again found no injuries, as detailed in late-night gunfire rattling a busy crossroads.
Residents say the tangle of greenbelt, narrow alleys and limited visibility along the Delridge–High Point corridor makes it tough for officers to catch whoever is pulling the trigger, and even harder to figure out why it keeps happening.
