A sweeping child exploitation sting in Snohomish County ended with 21 people in handcuffs on June 30, 2026, after a Washington State Patrol–led investigation known as Operation Guardian targeted suspects accused of seeking sex with minors or trading child sexual material.

Operation and Partners

The operation was led by the Washington State Patrol’s Missing and Exploited Children Task Force and pulled in more than 30 local, state and federal partner agencies, according to a news release. “Protecting children from exploitation is one of the most important responsibilities we have,” Chief John Batiste said in the release. The agency outlined its partner list and the arrests in a detailed press packet from the Washington State Patrol.

Crimes Under Review

Investigators focused on alleged attempted first- and second-degree child rape, commercial sexual abuse of a minor, communication with a minor for immoral purposes, sexual exploitation of a minor and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to KOMO. The Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is expected to review the investigative files and decide whether to file charges, the outlet reported.

Who Was Taken Into Custody

The Washington State Patrol released a list naming the 21 people taken into custody. They range in age from their 20s to their 60s and include local residents of Lake Stevens, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, Seattle and Tacoma, along with a small number of out-of-state suspects, the agency said. The release includes names, ages and hometowns for each person arrested in the operation, according to the Washington State Patrol.

How to Report Tips

Authorities urged anyone with information related to the suspects or potential victims to contact the Missing and Exploited Children Task Force at [email protected], as noted by KOMO. Members of the public who may have captured video or other potential evidence were asked to preserve it and share tips with investigators.

What Comes Next

The Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will review the case files and decide whether to bring formal charges. If prosecutors move forward, the offenses cited by investigators are felony-level crimes under Washington law, carrying the potential for lengthy prison terms and sex offender registration requirements. The statutes investigators referenced are outlined on the Washington State Legislature site for RCW chapter 9A.44 and the Washington State Legislature site for RCW chapter 9.68A.
