Claude's Comedy Club & Bar has slipped into the South Philadelphia nightlife lineup, opening this month beneath South Broad with an intimate basement showroom and diner-style bar that feels more neighborhood hangout than velvet-rope club. Early coverage shows a neon mic sign glowing over low ceilings, reclaimed booths wrapped around a compact stage, and a room built for roughly 100 people, with short sets and nightly programming that keep audiences close to the comics. Owner Reid Benditt says he designed the space as a comfortable home base for Philly comedians who need a steady stage.
The City of Philadelphia lists Claude's at 1123 S. Broad Street on its Liberty Bell Safe Certification page, and PhillyVoice notes it sits between Washington and Ellsworth, with a roughly 100-person showroom and a 50-seat bar. PhillyVoice reports the menu leans playful, with pickle plates, grilled cheese, and a "Tastykake flight," and says Benditt named the club for his mother, Claudia. "There was always a void in South Philly," Benditt told PhillyVoice as he laid out his goal of giving local comedians a reliable neighborhood stage.
FOX 29's Morgan Parrish visited Claude's and featured the space as South Philly's newest comedy venue in a July 9 video segment that walks viewers through the room and some of its early performances. The Liberty Bell Safe Certification listing indicates Claude's has completed the city's nighttime safety training and is eligible for related permits, while the club's official site posts upcoming shows and notes that tickets are available online for most performances.
Owner's plan and neighborhood context
Reid Benditt, a longtime Passyunk Square resident and hospitality veteran, told WhatNow earlier this year that he envisioned Claude's as a "diner meets bar" setup with modest ticket prices and no two-drink minimum. WhatNow reported that in the spring Benditt pursued zoning and permit approvals, including a special exception that would allow larger assembly if needed, but emphasized he was aiming for a smaller, accessible room where emerging comics could actually work out material. The outlet also noted that Benditt's background in local music venues and sketch comedy helped shape how he approaches both programming and hospitality at the new club.
Shows, tickets and what to expect
ClaudesComedy.com lists current show dates and ticketing information and prominently labels the club as "Now Open." PhillyVoice reports that Claude's plans programming seven nights a week and highlights a local series called "Sunday Gravy" that features hourlong sets by Philly comics. For people who keep tabs on the city's comedy scene, Claude's now joins Helium, Punch Line, and a handful of smaller rooms as another option to catch both up and coming and touring acts without trekking into Center City.
