What began as a routine traffic stop on San Antonio’s Southeast Side Tuesday afternoon ended with a patrol vehicle struck, a brief foot chase and a 26-year-old man in custody, according to authorities. The driver of a white Lexus allegedly reversed into a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper’s unit, then bolted on foot before being stopped with a Taser and arrested on multiple felony allegations.
According to KABB / FOX San Antonio, DPS troopers attempted to pull over the Lexus at about 3:05 p.m. near Pecan Valley Drive and East Southcross Boulevard. The driver pulled into a nearby business parking lot and, as the trooper walked up, backed into the patrol vehicle before taking off on foot. DPS told reporters that troopers deployed a Taser during the short chase, which allowed them to take the suspect into custody.
Bexar County's central magistrate search shows a booking for Daveion Ruiz-Carroll under number B202627474, confirming the arrest and the suspect’s age. The public entry indicates the case was processed through the county system, although specific court dates and bond information were not listed at the time of review.
The busy intersection at Pecan Valley Drive and East Southcross has already seen its share of trouble this year. A February DPS pursuit that ended in a three-vehicle crash unfolded near the same area, according to KSAT, highlighting how that Southeast Side corridor can quickly turn volatile when traffic stops escalate.
Charges and What Comes Next
Local reports state that Ruiz-Carroll faces several counts, including evading arrest in a vehicle, evading arrest on foot, aggravated assault against a peace officer, possession of more than four ounces but less than five pounds of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. DPS relayed those allegations to media, and they appear in county booking records as the case moves into Bexar County’s criminal court system.
Officials have not issued further public statements beyond the initial account provided to reporters, and DPS troopers continue their investigation. Additional records and court filings are expected to shed more light on the incident as the case progresses.
