What started as a quiet Saturday afternoon at a Southside apartment complex turned tense when gunfire was reported and a heavy police presence quickly followed. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office converged on The Village at San Jose apartments near Auburn Road and University Boulevard, filling the parking lots with patrol cars, crime-scene units and detectives. Neighbors said they saw paramedics rush a mother and an infant from the property, and the complex entrance was wrapped in caution tape while investigators worked into the evening. As of the time reporters were on scene, officials had not yet released a formal account of what happened.
According to Action News Jax, crews arrived around 3 p.m. to find multiple police units and detectives already on site. The station reported that neighbors told their team the shooting involved a minor and said the Department of Children and Families has been seen at the complex on several occasions. Action News Jax also noted that their reporters stayed at the scene waiting for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to confirm any information about potential victims, suspects or charges.
Where It Happened
The Village at San Jose is listed at 5551 Auburn Road in the Lakewood neighborhood, just off the Auburn and University corridor, per Apartments.com. The complex includes hundreds of units and sits near busy shopping areas and transit routes, which meant the sudden influx of police cars was hard to miss for nearby residents and passing drivers. With official details still scarce, neighbors and reporters alike said they were left waiting and wondering as detectives continued to process the scene.
