A domestic dispute on Jacksonville’s Southside turned violent Friday afternoon when a man in his early 30s was shot in the leg, according to officials. Officers were called around 3:20 p.m. to the 8300 block of Old Kings Road South, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his leg. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took him to a local hospital, and his injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The woman involved stayed at the scene and was detained while detectives began working the case.
Preliminary probe and suspect detained
Investigators told Action News Jax that the man and his girlfriend were in the middle of a domestic dispute when she pulled out a gun and fired a single shot, hitting him in the leg.
JSO described the victim as a Black man in his early 30s and the suspect as a Black woman in her early 30s. She remained at the scene and was detained by officers. The sheriff’s office told the station it believes the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
How police have dealt with domestic calls recently
Domestic-related calls in Jacksonville have, at times this year, escalated into armed confrontations, prompting the sheriff’s office to release body-camera footage and open internal investigations.
For example, News4Jax reported on a June officer-involved shooting that began as a domestic dispute and later led to video releases and an internal review. Incidents like these have kept detectives focused on locking down scenes quickly and interviewing witnesses as soon as possible, officials say.

Investigators say the case remains active as detectives interview witnesses and process evidence.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has not yet announced any charges. Detectives will review the evidence before submitting any referrals. This story will be updated as official statements and court filings become available.
