A 16-year-old was shot Tuesday afternoon on Milwaukee's north side, and police say they are still working to track down whoever pulled the trigger. Investigators are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to speak up as the case moves forward.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee police said the shooting happened around 4:23 p.m. in the 2700 block of North 44th Street. The department reported that the suspects remain unknown and that detectives are leaning on witness accounts and community tips to fill in the gaps.
Scene and neighborhood context
The 2700 block of North 44th sits a short walk from Washington High School of Information Technology and Milwaukee Math and Science Academy, which left nearby residents and school staff on edge after the gunfire. A June incident on the same block also rattled the neighborhood, when gunfire erupted steps from Milwaukee schools and investigators followed their usual playbook of reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses. Nearby schools and childcare centers coordinated with police during that earlier response, and neighbors are again watching closely to see how this latest case unfolds.
How to help investigators
Milwaukee Police asked anyone with information about Tuesday's shooting to contact the Violent Crimes Division at (414) 935-7360. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or through the P3 Tips app. Investigators stressed that community leads often make the difference in identifying suspects and building solid cases. The Milwaukee Police Department lists those reporting options and offers guidance for how to share information with detectives.
