A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department drug probe today ended with two arrests, suspected hard drugs, firearms and six visibly malnourished dogs pulled from a home in west Charlotte, after detectives moved in on a tip about ongoing drug activity.
Investigators served a search warrant at a house in the 500 block of West Kingston Avenue and also stopped a vehicle tied to the case. According to Queen City News, officers reported finding about 29.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine, roughly 28.5 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, nearly $400 in cash, drug paraphernalia, about 3 grams of suspected meth inside the home and three firearms, one of which was later confirmed stolen. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control removed six underfed dogs from the property.
Part of a wider enforcement push
CMPD said the arrests are one piece of a broader effort to choke off open-air drug markets and get illegal guns out of neighborhoods. The department’s "Queen City Safe" initiative has already led to more than 100 arrests and dozens of seized firearms this year, according to WSOC.
Arrests and charges
Officers arrested 49-year-old Angela Lynn Chin and 25-year-old Leshawn Adams. Chin faces charges that include trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine and cruelty to animals. Adams is charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances and displaying a fictitious tag, as reported by Queen City News. CMPD urged anyone with information to submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
What comes next
The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Detectives said they plan to forward the case to prosecutors for review and asked anyone with additional information to contact Crime Stoppers or CMPD's non-emergency line.
