A 22-year-old Woodland man was arrested on July 2 after investigators say he sexually assaulted at least two underage girls he met through Snapchat, including one younger than 15. Detectives say the alleged assaults followed online contact, and the arrest came after complaints to Yolo County deputies and a search at a Woodland home.
Investigation Timeline
According to The Sacramento Bee, the investigation began June 29, when Yolo County deputies received a report about a sexual assault involving a juvenile. Deputies determined the assault had occurred about 12 hours earlier. Working with the Woodland Police Department, detectives say they soon identified a second underage victim they believe was assaulted by the same 22-year-old suspect.
How Detectives Say He Approached Victims
Detectives say the suspect targeted underage girls he met on Snapchat, then allegedly supplied them with alcohol until they were inebriated before assaulting them. Investigators say they developed "additional probable cause" as they worked with Cameron's Place, the county children's advocacy center that conducts forensic interviews and medical exams for young victims.
Officials say detectives believe they have identified other possible underage victims but have not yet been able to determine who they are.
Search Warrant And Arrest
On July 2, Yolo County sheriff's deputies, along with officers from the Woodland and West Sacramento police departments, served a search warrant at a home in the 1500 block of 6th Street in Woodland and arrested the suspect without incident, according to The Sacramento Bee. The sheriff's office says the man is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, July 8.
Detectives are asking anyone with information or potential witnesses to contact the Yolo County Sheriff's Office at (530) 668-5280 as they continue to investigate.
Legal Next Steps
At the July 8 arraignment, prosecutors are expected to present formal charges in court and any initial bail conditions. After that hearing, the Yolo County Superior Court docket will carry the official filings and disclosures from the sheriff's office and the district attorney's office.
Local Context
Authorities note that this arrest follows other recent local cases where adults allegedly used social media to target minors. In March, a separate Woodland arrest came after reports that a man had tried to lure children to a remote spot.
Cameron's Place, along with the Yolo County District Attorney's victim-services team, remains listed as a resource for families navigating forensic interviews, medical exams, and follow-up support in cases involving child victims.
