Columbus is starting Friday with clear skies, temperatures around 66 degrees and humidity near 94%, but the morning may briefly turn foggy before a sunny afternoon reaches 82 degrees. The calm, warm setup will not last all weekend: showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in Saturday afternoon.
Fog Clears Before A Sunny Friday
Patchy fog could linger through about 9 a.m., especially in low-lying areas, before giving way to sunshine. According to the National Weather Service, east winds will stay light at around 5 mph, with a mostly clear Friday night and a low near 64.
Saturday Storms Could Pack A Punch
Saturday will begin mostly sunny and reach about 80 degrees, but rain chances rise sharply after 1 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become likely during the afternoon and early evening, with a 70% chance of precipitation and rainfall totals generally between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
A few storms could be strong to severe, with isolated damaging wind gusts the main concern and hail possible in the strongest cells. Outdoor plans should have an indoor backup, particularly from midafternoon through early evening, when storms are most likely to sweep across the Columbus area.
Cooler, Calmer Weather Returns Sunday
Storm chances taper Saturday night, followed by a sunny and noticeably cooler Sunday with a high near 75 degrees. Monday stays mostly sunny and mild near 75, while Tuesday reaches about 77 before warmer, more unsettled conditions return Wednesday and Thursday with highs around 80 to 81 and additional thunderstorm chances.
