Los Angeles is waking up to a warm Saturday, with temperatures around 70 degrees early before climbing quickly toward a sunny high near 97. The heat will linger well beyond the weekend, with even hotter afternoons possible across the city and inland neighborhoods next week.

According to the National Weather Service, downtown Los Angeles should stay dry and mostly clear through Friday, August 28. No heat advisory is currently in effect, but the forecast office is urging caution for people working or spending extended time outdoors during the hottest part of the day.

Afternoon Heat Peaks Saturday

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s around midday Saturday, August 22, before topping out near 97 in the afternoon. Southwest winds should generally stay between 5 and 10 mph in downtown Los Angeles, with temperatures easing into the upper 80s by early evening.

Winds could become considerably stronger farther inland, where gusts of 20 to 30 mph are possible during the afternoon and evening, including parts of the Antelope Valley. Coastal areas may see occasional low clouds or fog, but the downtown forecast remains firmly in the sunny category.

Little Relief As Next Week Heats Up

Sunday, August 23, and Monday, August 24, are forecast to reach about 94 degrees, followed by highs near 97 Tuesday. The warmest stretch arrives Wednesday and Thursday, August 26 and 27, when highs could reach 98 before Friday stays close to 97.

Overnight lows will mostly remain near 70 to 73 degrees, so the city may not cool off much after sunset. Rain chances are effectively zero through Thursday, with only a 1% chance listed Friday, making early-morning or evening plans the more comfortable choice for outdoor activities.
