Greenville police are searching for a black Ford F-150 pickup truck after a confrontation inside a Highway 82 East gas station spilled into gunfire outside, leaving four shell casings on the pavement but no victim in sight. Officers responded to the Alon station at 2405 Highway 82 East Tuesday evening after reports of multiple gunshots and a possible shooting victim, but found no one who had been shot when they arrived.
According to Darkhorse Press, a white man and a Black woman were inside the store shortly before the shooting. A witness told police the man allegedly assaulted the woman as she walked past him, and the woman then confronted him and followed him outside. Moments after the two left the store, witnesses reported hearing approximately four gunshots. Officers recovered four spent shell casings from in front of the business and submitted them as evidence.
Police believe the black Ford F-150 may be connected to the incident and are asking the public for help locating the truck and its occupants. Investigators have not said whether a victim left the scene before officers arrived, and that detail remains unresolved. The investigation remains active, and police have explicitly warned the public not to approach or confront the truck's occupants if spotted.
A Gas Station With a Troubled Recent History
This is not the first outbreak of gunfire at the 2400 block of Highway 82 East. In late November 2024, a drive-by shooting near the same Alon station injured two people in the parking lot and killed 27-year-old Sandra Kay Daniels, according to the Delta Daily News. Then in March 2025, the Greenville Police Department responded to another early-morning shooting at the same location that left one victim wounded.
After a security incident at the station in July 2025, Police Chief Marcus R. Turner, Sr. issued a formal public statement urging area businesses and commercial centers to upgrade their security camera systems to assist investigations, the department said. Turner has led the Greenville Police Department since his September 2021 appointment, after previously serving as chief administrative officer for the local public school district, per the Delta Democrat-Times. State business and WIC directory records show the property at 2405 Highway 82 East has operated under several names over the years, including Quick Food Market and Beauchamp Express Exxon 2, as a multi-use retail gas station and market.
What Could Happen Legally
If investigators determine the gunshots were fired from inside the fleeing F-150, the truck's occupants could face Mississippi's drive-by shooting statute under Code § 97-3-109, which covers discharging a firearm from or within a vehicle in an attempt to cause serious bodily harm. That charge carries a penalty of up to 30 years in state prison and a fine as high as $10,000, according to Justia Law.
The initial confrontation inside the store could carry separate consequences depending on what investigators establish. Mississippi law distinguishes simple assault, a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, from aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon or an attempt to cause serious bodily harm, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, according to FindLaw.
Citywide Trends and How to Help
The Highway 82 corridor's repeat violence stands out against a broader citywide trend. Crime tracking published in early 2026 found Greenville saw a 21% reduction in shooting homicides from 2024 to 2025, which analysts at The Crime Forecast attributed partly to targeted local anti-violence initiatives and juvenile curfew policies. Even so, the department's workload remains heavy — in July 2026 alone, the month before this shooting, Greenville police handled 5,471 total calls for service, answered 1,063 emergency 911 calls, and made 142 arrests, the department reported on Facebook.
Anyone with information about the black Ford F-150 or its occupants is asked to contact the Greenville Police Department at 662-378-1515. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Greenville-Washington County, which offers cash rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and felony case clearance, according to the City of Greenville. Police stressed the investigation remains active and urged residents not to approach the truck or its occupants under any circumstances.
