Honolulu is starting Wednesday mostly clear and near 74°F, but the island is headed for a warmer, more unsettled stretch. Afternoon temperatures should reach about 86°F, with isolated showers and east-northeast winds gusting up to 22 mph.
Warmer Days Bring More Afternoon Showers
Wednesday’s rain chance is only about 20%, but showers become more scattered Thursday as temperatures climb to 87°F. Lighter winds through Friday could allow sea breezes to develop, increasing the odds of afternoon showers in leeward neighborhoods as well as the usual windward and mauka spots.
Friday looks like the warmest day of the near-term forecast, with a high near 89°F and a 50% chance of scattered showers. Most rainfall should remain light, with new amounts generally below a tenth of an inch.
Trade Winds Strengthen For The Weekend
The wind pattern shifts late Friday into Saturday, when east-northeast trades are expected to rebuild. Saturday’s winds may reach 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 28 mph, while Sunday could see winds around 24 mph and gusts as high as 35 mph.
Showers will remain possible through the weekend, with chances near 40% on Saturday and Sunday. The stronger trades should focus more clouds and showers on windward and mauka areas, while exposed shorelines and ridgelines feel noticeably blustery.
Early Next Week Carries A Wetter Signal
Rain chances rise to around 60% Monday and Tuesday, even as highs stay near 87°F. The National Weather Service Honolulu is also watching tropical moisture that could move near the islands, though forecasters stress that the potential system has not developed and the details remain uncertain.
For now, no watches, warnings or advisories are in effect. South-facing surf should ease through midweek before another long-period south swell begins arriving late this week.
