A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary after allegedly slipping through a side door of Kim Kardashian's Hidden Hills estate Sunday afternoon and driving off in a car that belonged to a staff member. Deputies say the suspect loaded items into the vehicle before allegedly taking it for a joyride, though Kardashian and her four children were nowhere near the property when it happened.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lost Hills Station responded to the 24800 block of Long Valley Road around 3:45 p.m. Sunday after a property security guard called 911, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Lost Hills Station handles contract policing for Hidden Hills and surrounding San Fernando Valley communities, and the sheriff's department has confirmed both the burglary and the arrest. As ABC7 Los Angeles reports, the stolen car belonged to a staff member rather than to Kardashian herself, and the security guard who phoned police also reported the burglary directly.
Kardashian has not publicly commented on the incident, per ABC7's reporting. But sources close to her disputed the sheriff's department's version of events, telling TMZ the suspect never actually gained entry to the main residence and that no personal belongings were even kept at the house at the time. That account conflicts directly with deputies' description of a burglary in progress, in which the suspect allegedly loaded items into the car before driving away; TMZ has not resolved which version is accurate. Law enforcement has not yet released the suspect's name.
Why the House Was Empty
The reason nobody was home ties back to ongoing construction. Kardashian and her four children have been living in a nearby rental for several months while the Hidden Hills estate undergoes extensive renovations, according to FOX Sports Radio's iHeart affiliate. Staff vehicles and select property reportedly remained on site during the construction work, which may explain why a car was there for the suspect to allegedly take.
The estate itself carries a striking price history.
