Memphis is starting Friday under clouds and around 81 degrees, but the cover will not last long. Skies are expected to turn sunny as temperatures climb to 94, setting up a hot afternoon before a clear, quieter night near 72.
Sunny Friday Comes With An Ozone Alert
The National Weather Service in Memphis expects light north-northeast winds of 5 mph or less and almost no chance of rain Friday. A separate Heat Advisory runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for portions of east Arkansas and north Mississippi, where heat-index values could reach 107 degrees, but Shelby County is not included in that advisory.
Memphis is included in a Code Orange ozone alert through 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Children and adults who are active outdoors, along with people who have asthma or other respiratory conditions, should limit prolonged exertion during the afternoon and check air-quality updates before heading out.
Saturday Brings The Weekend Heat
Saturday looks mostly sunny with a high near 96, while the heat index could reach 102. Winds will remain light, so there will not be much of a breeze to take the edge off the afternoon.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after 7 p.m. Saturday, with a 20% chance of rain and less than a tenth of an inch possible. The odds remain low, but outdoor plans should leave room for a quick pop-up storm.
Sunday Starts A Modest Cooldown
Sunday brings a high near 92 after a slight chance of rain showers before 7 a.m. The rest of the day should turn mostly sunny, with light east-northeast winds and another small chance of storms overnight.
Rain Chances Return Next Week
Monday is expected to reach 90 with a slight chance of morning showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday through Thursday stay warm in the low 90s, but storm chances become more regular, ranging from 30% to 40% at various points as disturbances move through the region.
For Memphis, the practical forecast is straightforward: Friday is sunny and hot, Saturday is hotter, and Sunday offers the first small break. Keep water and shade in the plan for weekend outings, especially during the afternoon.
