Barwest Midtown is turning 15, and the Sacramento bar is marking the milestone by bringing in Jersey Shore alum DJ Pauly D for an outdoor block party in the West Lot behind the club on August 30. The event runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with tickets starting at $55 and up.
The party celebrates the 15th anniversary of Barwest, which opened in 2011 at 2724 J St, according to a Facebook announcement from DJ Pauly D's page. As reported by The Sacramento Bee, Barwest Midtown says the event will feature a packed crowd, festival-style energy, VIP tables, cold drinks, food, and nonstop music. Per Barwest, DJ Pauly D will bring high-energy sets, party anthems, and his world-famous presence to the celebration.
From Jersey Shore Fame to Sacramento's J Street
DJ Pauly D — born Paul DelVecchio Jr. — gained fame on MTV's Jersey Shore, which premiered in December 2009 alongside castmates Snooki and The Situation. Before the show made him a household name, he was working as a local club DJ in Rhode Island when casting directors discovered him on MySpace, according to Wikipedia; MTV producers reportedly sent a crew to film a day in his life before casting him without a formal audition. He later expanded beyond television and DJing, signing a three-album recording deal with 50 Cent's G-Unit and G-Note Records in 2011, per Wikipedia.
Pauly D has repeatedly ranked among Forbes' top-earning global DJs, generating an estimated $11 million to $13 million annually at his peak and commanding roughly $40,000 to $100,000 or more per performance, according to Forbes. In Las Vegas, he maintains a multi-operator residency footprint across eight venues, performing regularly for Tao Group, Hakkasan Group, and MGM Nightlife at spots including OMNIA, TAO Beach, and Marquee, per a Las Vegas Guestlist guide — reportedly logging more than 150 live DJ sets a year nationwide. The Sacramento block party isn't his first local stop this year; he headlined an all-ages concert at Ace of Spades, a roughly 1,000-capacity Midtown venue on R Street, on January 2, according to DoTheBay.
Barwest's Owner and the Midtown Sutter Corridor
Barwest is co-owned by Sacramento hospitality entrepreneur Trevor Shults, whose regional portfolio also includes Crawdads on the River in Sacramento and Crawdads on the Lake in Folsom, according to Comstock's Magazine. Barwest originally opened as a sports bar and grill before growing into one of Midtown's larger nightlife destinations. It sits within the Midtown Sutter entertainment corridor, a business improvement district surrounding Sutter's Fort State Historic Park known for its concentration of locally owned dining and entertainment spots, per the Midtown Sutter Association.
For event logistics, Barwest is directing patrons to park at the Galleria Building lot at 29th and J Streets and is asking late-night attendees to be mindful of neighborhood sound levels, according to the venue's official site.
A Tougher Stretch for J Street Nightlife
The celebration comes as Midtown's J Street corridor works through a rough patch. Just down the street, Goldfield Trading Post closed its Midtown doors in late 2025, citing steep increases in rent, insurance, and utility costs after hosting more than 1,500 concerts over a decade on J Street. That closure adds context to a booking like Pauly D's — a splashy, high-cost celebrity draw at a moment when neighboring venues have struggled to keep their lights on.
