Columbus is starting Wednesday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures around 66 degrees, but the calm opening will not last all day. The temperature should climb near 80 before showers and thunderstorms develop after 2 p.m., with the most unsettled weather arriving later tonight.
Heavy Rain Threat Arrives Tonight
The National Weather Service’s Wilmington office says storms will become more likely late Wednesday afternoon and evening as a front moves through the region. The daytime rain chance is about 30%, rising to 80% overnight, and some storms could produce heavy rain.
Rainfall could total three-quarters of an inch to 1 inch in parts of the area, with repeated downpours possible near the I-70 corridor. The storms should continue into Thursday morning, when showers are likely before noon and visibility could be reduced during the morning commute.
A Brief Break Before Weekend Storms
Thursday will still reach about 80 degrees, followed by a mostly clear night with a low near 62. Friday looks like the week’s easiest outdoor bet, with sunny skies and a high near 81.
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible Saturday afternoon and evening, when the forecast calls for a 50% chance of rain and the potential for stronger storms. Sunday and Monday turn cooler and mostly sunny, with highs near 77 before temperatures rebound toward 80 Tuesday.
No watches, warnings or advisories are listed for Ohio in the current forecast. Still, residents should keep an eye on changing conditions Wednesday night, especially if plans involve driving or outdoor activities.
