Raleigh is about to get a new early-morning doughnut contender: Houston-born Shipley Do-Nuts plans two shops in the city, with the first expected to arrive in 2027. The company has not revealed where that first shop will land, leaving local doughnut fans with a timeline but no address to plug into GPS.
ABC11 reports that Shipley plans to open two Raleigh shops over the next two years. The move would extend the chain’s North Carolina push beyond its existing Concord store and bring its signature glazed doughnuts and savory kolaches into the Triangle.
From Houston To The Triangle
Shipley dates its roots to 1936, when Lawrence Shipley Sr. created the original recipe before opening the first shop in Houston in the mid-1940s, according to the company’s official history. The brand now says it offers more than 60 varieties, though the plain glazed doughnut remains its most popular style.
North Carolina got its first taste of the chain in February 2025, when Shipley opened a Concord shop near Charlotte, the company said in a company release. That location is operated by John and Lillian Brijeski and serves doughnuts, coffee and kolaches, including versions filled with sausage, jalapeño, ham, cheese, bacon and eggs.
What Raleigh Still Doesn’t Know
For now, the 2027 target is more concrete than the map: no Raleigh site has been publicly announced, and the exact opening date is still to come. ABC11 says the second shop is part of the same two-year rollout, but the chain has not identified either Raleigh neighborhood or a local opening team.
Shipley’s franchise materials say the company works with local real-estate professionals on site selection and must approve a potential site before lease negotiations begin. So Raleigh has the sugar rush on the calendar, but the coordinates are still under wraps.
