A 66-year-old Belmont man is dead after the pickup truck he was driving drifted off 8th Avenue and struck a tree in rural Wright Township on Monday afternoon. Ottawa County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the crash scene just after 4 p.m., finding the man as the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition before being pronounced deceased.
According to MLive.com, the man was traveling northbound on 8th Avenue when he passed the Garfield Street intersection before drifting off the roadway and striking a tree. The victim's name had not been released at the time of publication. The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, and the scene at 8th Avenue near Garfield Street was closed for a period of time while investigators worked before it was cleared.
