Gates Mills police were still investigating a road-rage complaint stemming from a Sept. 18 encounter at Mayfield and Chagrin River roads, and had not determined whether charges were warranted, Cleveland.com reported. The motorcyclist and the driver gave officers conflicting accounts.
The motorcyclist told police the driver had tailgated him, then got out of his car at a red light, yelled at him and slapped him on the neck. The rider said he photographed the vehicle’s license plate before the driver drove away, according to Cleveland.com.
Driver Offers a Different Account
After officers identified and contacted the driver, he told them that the motorcycle had passed him and that the rider made gestures toward him, Cleveland.com reported.
No charges had been filed as of the report’s publication, Cleveland.com said. That status does not resolve the conflicting accounts.
What Remains Unclear
The report did not say whether the investigation later resulted in a citation or other action.
Ohio’s assault statute prohibits knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm, according to Ohio Revised Code Section 2903.13. The statute alone does not establish what happened in this incident or whether an offense occurred.
