A 46-year-old woman from Ingleside, Illinois died at the scene early Tuesday morning after a 19-year-old driver crossed the centerline on Wilmot Road near County Highway V and 224th Avenue, sideswiping one car before slamming head-on into hers. The 19-year-old man from Genoa City was hospitalized with serious injuries, and both drivers had to be cut free from their vehicles; the woman died at the scene, while the 19-year-old man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The Kenosha County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at 5:21 a.m. on Wilmot Road near County Highway V and 224th Avenue, as reported by FOX6 News Milwaukee. According to the sheriff's office, the teen was driving a Chevrolet HHR eastbound when he crossed into oncoming traffic, first sideswiping a westbound vehicle and then colliding head-on with a westbound Chevrolet Impala driven by the Ingleside woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
Rescue Crews Battle to Free Trapped Drivers
Bristol Fire and Rescue Department and Pleasant Prairie Fire Department personnel joined Kenosha County Sheriff's deputies at the scene to extricate both the teen and the Ingleside woman, who were trapped inside their vehicles, according to the sheriff's office account carried by FOX6. The driver of the sideswiped vehicle was not hurt and gave investigators a witness statement at the scene, per the same account. The 19-year-old is cooperating with investigators as he recovers from his injuries.
The Kenosha County Major Crash Assistance Team responded to investigate the crash, according to Kenosha County Eye.
Crash Cause Remains Under Investigation
Investigators have not said what caused the teen driver to cross the centerline.
Tuesday's crash also fell near the anniversary of another fatal crash on the corridor. Exactly one year earlier, on September 22, 2025, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office investigated a fatal crash at County Highway C and 274th Avenue, in which a 49-year-old female motorcyclist was struck and killed by an SUV turning onto 274th Avenue, according to Kenosha County. Tuesday's crash occurred near County Highway V and 224th Avenue. A separate fatal crash on a curve elsewhere along Highway C in Bristol previously left a 38-year-old driver's car colliding head-on with an oncoming vehicle after losing control, killing one person and seriously injuring another, per WGTD.
Drivers From Both Sides of State Line
The crash involved a Genoa City, Wisconsin, driver and an Ingleside, Illinois, woman, according to the Daily Herald.
Tuesday's fatality follows a March head-on crash that killed a Kenosha woman and led to OWI scrutiny for an Illinois driver, a May crash that left a 19-year-old facing charges after two sisters were injured, and a July crash in which a pickup truck driver died in Randall. No charges have been announced in connection with Tuesday's crash as the Major Crash Assistance Team continues its work.
