The incident happened in August 2026 at the Wendy's near Empire Boulevard, according to News12 New York. Per 1010 WINS, NYPD officers activated a Level 1 Mobilization on August 17 and responded to the reported robbery at 469 Flatbush Avenue, where the suspect jumped the counter, snatched the register, and fled eastbound on Empire Boulevard. That address places the restaurant near Prospect Lefferts Gardens rather than in Flatlands proper — Wendy's operates several locations along the Flatbush Avenue corridor, including one near Flatlands at 2160 Flatbush Avenue, according to the chain's own store listings.
NYPD Crime Stoppers has released a description of the wanted man: a Black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants, and black sunglasses, with a facial tattoo, the station's report notes. Detectives also released surveillance images of the suspect, per News12. Police are urging anyone who recognizes him or knows his whereabouts to come forward.

Forcibly stealing property — like jumping a counter to seize a cash register — falls under Robbery in the Third Degree in New York, a Class D felony that carries up to seven years in state prison, according to Justia Law. Entering an employee-only area behind a service counter with intent to steal could also support a Burglary in the Third Degree charge, another Class D felony with up to seven years in prison, according to Hacker Murphy LLP.
