Three staff members were wounded Monday in a shooting at Progressive Home Elderly on the 7000 block of Denver Avenue in South Los Angeles. One victim was in critical condition and two were stable after being taken to local hospitals, according to CBS News Los Angeles and KTLA.
The timing reported by the outlets differs slightly. CBS News said the Los Angeles Police Department received a call just before 11 a.m., while KTLA reported an active-shooter call at 10:50 a.m. Police entered the lobby, where they found the three people with gunshot wounds, and Deputy Chief Mark Reina said officers reached the facility within two minutes, CBS News reported.
Police said the wounded people and the suspect were employees of the facility, although officials have not released their names, specific roles, or a possible motive. Officers found the suspect on another floor and took him into custody without further incident, according to CBS News and KTLA.
A caregiver who was inside the building told KTLA that the custodian spoke of being fed up immediately before the shooting and that she left as gunfire began. More than 100 people live at the facility, and officials said no residents were injured, KTLA reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
