Super Bowl LXI is scheduled to return to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood in February 2027. Jay-Z is reportedly expected to headline its halftime show, according to multiple sources cited by Puck—a selection that would put the rapper and mogul onstage at the venue during the NFL championship game.
Puck reported, citing multiple unnamed sources, that Jay-Z had chosen himself to perform at the show, according to Puck. Sports Business Journal also described him as expected to headline. Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation has officially announced the performer, and representatives for both did not respond to Puck's request for comment. KTLA reported that it also sought comment from the NFL and Roc Nation.
The reported choice would involve Jay-Z in a show his company has helped shape since 2019, when Roc Nation signed a deal with the NFL to curate and produce the halftime show. The agreement was reportedly worth $5 million a year, and the two sides renewed it in 2024 for another five years, according to Sports Business Journal. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said the league will continue working with Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, to produce the show.
Timing Lines Up With a Milestone Weekend at SoFi
The report comes as Jay-Z is scheduled to perform the first of two nearly sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium this weekend. The dates are part of his JAY-Z30 tour, marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. Puck reported that he could announce the Super Bowl performance during the run. The tour has included anniversary shows in New York, London and Paris.
Jay-Z has not released an album since 2017's double-platinum 4:44, according to Puck. The outlet reported that he grossed more than $42 million across three sold-out Yankee Stadium shows in July and $12 million from a sold-out Paris crowd in September 2026.
Other Names Were in the Mix
Puck reported that Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber were also considered for the halftime slot, but Jay-Z was viewed as the more compelling choice. Harry Styles had surfaced in online speculation, though there was no official confirmation that he was a contender. Separately, Sports Business Journal reported that U2 will headline the halftime show for the NFL's first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game, a Rams-Packers matchup at SoFi Stadium.
SoFi Stadium has hosted Super Bowl halftime history before: the 2022 show there featured Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige, with appearances by 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak, according to the New York Times. Kendrick Lamar's most recent halftime set later drew a record 133.5 million viewers, while Usher's 2024 performance pulled in 123.4 million and Rihanna's 2023 show hit 121 million, per the same report. The Times noted that the three most recent halftime shows rank as the top three in viewership since 2000, according to Billboard, and that the Roc Nation-NFL partnership plays a significant role in planning and producing the spectacle each year.
What Super Bowl LXI Means for Southern California
The league has confirmed that Super Bowl LXI will be played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, the venue's second Super Bowl and Los Angeles County's ninth overall, according to the NFL. The economic stakes for the region have been illustrated by estimates for the prior game: a Micronomics study published by the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission put Super Bowl LVI's potential impact at $234 million to $477 million.
What the 2022 precedent does—and doesn't—show
The range cited for Super Bowl LVI was a pre-event forecast, not a post-event measurement of realized spending. The Micronomics study, published by the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, estimated $234 million to $477 million in benefits using projected visitor numbers, hotel rates and spending. The cited study therefore does not provide a post-event result for Los Angeles County. Micronomics Economic Research and Consulting described the figures as a forecast.
For Super Bowl LVI in Inglewood on February 13, 2022, the city said on-site fan parking would be extremely limited and shuttle services from various parking locations would be required, according to the City of Inglewood. That guidance describes 2022 operations; it does not establish transportation or street-management plans for Super Bowl LXI in 2027.
