A 7-year-old Warrior Run School District first grader died Monday evening after running into Shipton Street in front of Mifflinburg Elementary School and being struck by a pickup truck, according to authorities investigating the crash. The boy, identified by a GoFundMe organizer as Dallas Springer Nye, was at the school for an evening youth soccer game when the collision occurred around 5:29 p.m.

According to WNEP, a relative had been trying to help the boy cross Shipton Street so he could retrieve a water bottle from his mother's car. After an eastbound vehicle passed, the child bolted into the road and was hit by a westbound Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. As PennLive reported, the truck was being driven by a 71-year-old man in front of the elementary school on the 100 block of Shipton Street.

Dallas was not a Mifflinburg student himself — he was enrolled in the Warrior Run School District but was at the Union County school for a youth soccer game. Emergency crews treated him on Shipton Street before he was taken to WellSpan Evangelical Hospital in nearby Lewisburg, where he was later pronounced dead.

Emergency Crews Were Already On Scene

Mifflinburg Police Chief Tracy Fetterman told WKOK that the Mifflinburg Fire Department and emergency medical personnel were already treating the child when officers arrived in response to the 5:29 p.m. dispatch call. Police have not publicly released the child's name or age, though a GoFundMe organizer who described themselves as a friend of the family identified him as Dallas Springer Nye and said he loved playing soccer, baseball, being outside, and spending time with family and friends.

The fundraiser, intended to support the family's financial burdens and needs, had raised $13,400 of its $24,000 goal as of Tuesday morning. Local police have said the investigation into the crash is continuing.

Surveillance Video Reviewed, No Charges Filed

Surveillance footage from a school building captured the accident, indicating that the 71-year-old driver from Muncy was not speeding when his truck struck the boy. No charges or citations had been filed against the driver, and local police were continuing to investigate.

Pennsylvania law sets strict limits for motorists near school grounds. Under Pennsylvania Vehicle Code Title 75, Section 3365, drivers passing through an officially established school zone are restricted to 15 miles per hour during designated arrival and departure hours.

District Offers Grief Counseling

Warrior Run School District Superintendent Dr. Thor Edmiston distributed a districtwide letter confirming that grief counseling services were being made available to students, staff, and affected families following the boy's death.

The crash comes amid a broader statewide decline in traffic deaths. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation data released in May showed total statewide traffic fatalities dropped to 1,047 in 2025, 80 fewer than in 2024, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

No further details about the investigation's status or next steps have been released. Mifflinburg Police and Pennsylvania State Police crash reconstruction specialists continue to review the case.
