A 49-year-old woman was fighting for her life Wednesday after she was shot 11 times during a triple shooting at a residence on the 2800 block of North 20th Street in North Philadelphia. Police say the gunfire erupted just before 10 a.m., also wounding a 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, and investigators have not identified a suspect.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the 29-year-old man was shot three times in his right leg and the 27-year-old woman was shot six times through her body; both were taken to Temple University Hospital and listed in stable condition. The 49-year-old woman, who was shot 11 times through her body, was admitted to the same hospital and remains in critical condition, according to police. As of the newspaper's report, investigators had not identified a suspect and continue to investigate the shooting.
Nearly Two Dozen Shots Fired at the Scene
Nearly Two Dozen Shots Fired at the Scene Police recovered evidence suggesting nearly two dozen shots were fired both inside and outside the North 20th Street residence, according to CBS News. The station reported that it was unclear who the shooter or shooters were.
The North Philadelphia shooting came a day after a separate, unrelated fatal shooting in West Philadelphia. Officers responded to the 500 block of Allison Street just after 8 p.m. Tuesday on a report of gunfire and found an unidentified man with gunshot wounds, as Hoodline previously reported. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital and pronounced dead just after 8:30 p.m. No arrests have been made, and Philadelphia's homicide unit is investigating.
A Citywide Decline, but Local Violence Persists
Both shootings remain unsolved, even as Philadelphia's overall violence numbers continue to fall. The Philadelphia Police Department recorded 143 homicides citywide as of October 20, a 23.5% decrease compared with the same period in 2025. That builds on a historic drop in 2025, when the city recorded 222 homicides — the lowest annual total since 1966 and a 17% decrease from 2024, according to The Pew Charitable Trusts.
The Philadelphia City Controller's gun violence dashboard tracks shooting victims in Philadelphia, according to the Philadelphia City Controller. Philadelphia recorded 562 homicides in 2021.
Solve Rates Have Climbed, but These Cases Remain Open
An analysis of police data by criminal justice outlet The Trace found Philadelphia's homicide clearance rate reached 82% in 2025, up from 45% in 2016, while nonfatal shooting clearance rates rose above 40%. Once police do bring charges, prosecutors file formal criminal charges in nearly all homicide and non-fatal shooting cases with sufficient evidence, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's DATA Lab.
For now, both the North 20th Street triple shooting and the Allison Street homicide remain open without a named suspect. The City of Philadelphia offers a standing reward of up to $20,000 under Police Directive 8.13. Separately, the city provides a $10,000 reward for tips in shootings that injure someone within 500 feet of a school, recreation center, or public library, a policy established in 2022.
The North 20th Street shooting is the latest in a string of recent North Philadelphia gun violence incidents, following a fatal shooting on North Gratz Street and a shooting near Cambria Street that killed one person and wounded four others earlier this month, both previously covered by Hoodline.
