Two men were shot outside Club Mia in Fresno's Tower District just after midnight early Sunday, and a woman injured her ankle amid the chaos that followed the gunfire. Officers found the men with gunshot wounds in front of the club near Olive and Linden avenues and provided medical aid before both were taken to a hospital.
The shooting happened at 12:18 a.m., according to the Fresno Bee. One man was shot in the lower extremities, while the other suffered a wound to the upper body. Their conditions were not immediately known as of the newspaper's report.
Fresno police Lt. Justin Hardy said officers happened to be patrolling the Tower District when several shots were fired at close range. “We had officers on scene and we could address the situation quickly,” Hardy said, according to the same report. He estimated that as many as eight shots may have been fired, with the scene concentrated around the club itself.
Woman Hurt Fleeing the Gunfire
Amid the scramble that followed the shots, a woman injured her ankle and was also taken to a hospital, the Fresno Bee reported. Investigators had not determined what led to the shooting, and no information about a motive or suspect was immediately available.
The incident adds to what Tower District businesses have described as a troubling pattern. Business owners told ABC30 that a fatal shooting in the neighborhood marked the latest in a series of shooting incidents reported in the area over the past year, and that gunfire broke out in the district the previous month, sending one man to the hospital.
A Deadly Stretch Near the Same Intersection
The Tower District has seen repeated violence near Olive and Linden avenues in recent months. A 28-year-old man, Tyrone Miles, was shot and killed outside MIA Nightclub near that same intersection, per ABC30's reporting, and homicide detectives determined that a verbal dispute had occurred nearby before Miles was shot, according to the Fresno Bee's separate coverage of two fatal shootings that week. That earlier report also noted a different fatal shooting two days prior outside Bulldog Liquor on East Shaw Avenue, where 25-year-old Muhammad Muhtaraam-Conley was shot during an argument.
In another Tower District shooting detailed by YourCentralValley, a 32-year-old man suffered a single gunshot wound to his leg while a woman suffered minor injuries fleeing the gunfire. Three people were arrested in that case, and a firearm thrown from a vehicle was later recovered from the highway, according to the outlet.
Homicides Climb Even as Other Violent Crime Falls
The shooting comes as Fresno grapples with a citywide rise in homicides this year. Police have responded to 23 homicides in the city so far in 2026, up from 15 at the same point in 2025, Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said, per YourCentralValley's report. Casto noted that the figure remains well below the 74 homicides the city recorded in both 2020 and 2021.
Despite the uptick in homicides, Casto said violent crime overall is down 9% in the city and that shootings are still down year to date. She added that police have solved 80% of nonfatal gunshot-wound cases this year and that the department has posted a 96% clearance rate for this year's homicides, according to the same outlet.
Investigators had not released further details on the Club Mia shooting as of Sunday, and the Fresno Bee indicated the story would be updated when more information becomes available.
