Dirt is moving on a stretch of Route 47 in Millville, where crews have begun clearing land for a new multi-building commercial development. The project has quietly picked up a notable addition to its leasing plans: Wonder Food Hall, the multi-concept dining brand known for bringing several restaurant kitchens under one roof.
Land clearing has started for the development, according to 42freeway.com, which first reported the site activity. The outlet places the project at Route 47 and Union Crossing Road, near Route 55 and south of the Cumberland Mall, while WhatNow identifies the planned location as Route 47 and Cumberland Crossing Boulevard — the two accounts differ on the exact road name for the site. A city planning-board listing from January 2025 ties the parcels to 2119 and 2129 North 2nd Street, also referenced as NJSH Route 47 and Cumberland Crossing, where the applicant sought preliminary and final subdivision and major-site-plan approvals, according to the City of Millville.
Wonder Added to Rear of the Project, But Not Yet Confirmed
Updated online leasing plans show Wonder Food Hall added to the rear of the development, per the same 42freeway.com report, though the outlet is careful to note that Wonder's inclusion has not been independently confirmed. WhatNow's reporting describes Wonder as positioned behind a row of proposed tenants that includes Starbucks, AT&T, Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Aspen Dental, attributing that layout to a Paramount Realty site plan. The current online marketing plan lists AT&T, Tropical Cafe, Aspen Dental, Valvoline and Wonder as planned tenants, with Starbucks listed only as proposed, the 42freeway.com report adds.
Municipal engineering material reviewed by the city indicates that proposed uses on the site, including Aspen Dental, Valvoline and retail buildings, would be served by sanitary sewer laterals connecting to the existing main along Cumberland Crossing, according to the City of Millville. No official opening date for a Millville Wonder location has been announced, per WhatNow's reporting.
What Wonder Actually Serves Up
Wonder brings multiple restaurant concepts together under one roof with a significant focus on delivery, the 42freeway.com report notes. Customers can mix and match dishes from different restaurant partners within a single order, offering dine-in, pickup and delivery options. Todd Lukas, a regional director at Wonder, told WhatNow the brand aims to accommodate different tastes and dietary needs for families, friend groups and offices.
WhatNow's reporting lists Wonder's lineup as including Marcus Samuelsson's Streetbird, Bobby Flay Steak and Marc Murphy's The Mainstay, alongside pizza, wings, salads and burgers, plus Thai, Italian, Mediterranean and Spanish cuisines. The company describes itself as a food hall offering a variety of cuisines and options for every palate, and it maintains a website along with Instagram and Facebook accounts, according to the same report.
Nearby Locations Already Open
South Jersey diners don't have to imagine what the concept looks like in practice. Wonder already operates locations in Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel and Marlton, giving the region a preview of what a Millville outpost might resemble, per 42freeway.com's account. The chain has grown well beyond New Jersey, too — a separate WhatNow Houston report counts nearly 120 Wonder Food Hall locations operating across the country, with the brand having evolved from high-end mobile kitchens into a rapidly expanding chain of brick-and-mortar food halls serving meals from multiple renowned chefs.
That same Houston report notes Wonder was founded by entrepreneur Marc Lore in 2018 and traces the company's expansion to other markets, including a planned Spring, Texas location at 6625 Spring Stuebner Road and a second Houston-area site at 107 Yale Street in the Washington Avenue corridor near the Heights. For now, whether Millville joins that growing map remains unconfirmed — the leasing plans point that way, but neither Wonder nor the development's backers have made it official.
