Yesterday, the 400 block of Haight Street was the site of a 4-hour-long block party and sidewalk sale -- a new Second Sundays tradition in the Lower Haight.
While dreary weather at noon meant a slow start to the festivities, the skies eventually cleared and the action picked up. Here are a few photos from the afternoon.
Several vendors were on hand to sell locally-designed items including jewelry, tshirts, leather goods and linens. Passersby stopped to listen and dance to the sounds of a quartet performing at the corner of Haight and Fillmore. Artists including Pete Doolittle set up in front of Underground SF to sell their works. Rooky Ricardo's enjoyed a steady stream of customers while records were sold and swapped in front of the shop. Overall, the scene had a mellow but happy vibe, and the organizers at Wing Wings and Rooky Ricardo's expressed satisfaction with the event. This is the start of a new tradition every second Sunday of the month, so if you missed yesterday's happenings, don't fret -- the next block party will be heading our way in just a few weeks.
