If you answered yes and no, respectively, then a couple of local bicyclists have a one-of-a-kind service for you.
On May 14th, Jon Therrian, who lives at Divisadero and Grove, and his friend Brian Hill will be setting off from Anacortes, Washington on an epic bike ride to New York City. They expect to complete the nearly 4,000-mile trek in just over two months, arriving in New York on July 23rd. Along the way, the duo will be blogging about their journey so folks at home can keep up with their progress. They have most of the route mapped out already, but are leaving some flexibility toward the end. "We have good maps for the entire route until we hit Albany. I'm just going to follow the Hudson south and pray I hit Manhattan with battery life on my phone," Therrian says. Therrian and Hill will be using the ride as a fundraiser for charity:water, a non-profit which funds projects to bring clean drinking water to developing countries. But to make things extra-interesting, they'll also be acting as a courier service. If you have a note you'd like to have hand/bike-delivered all the way to someone in New York City, you can send it to them now via the instructions here. You'll also be able to have the notes delivered to post offices that Therrian and Hill will be stopping at along their journey. When they arrive in New York, they'll have a viewing party in which all submitted notes will be on public display, and they'll invite your recipient to attend. After the viewing party, Therrian expects to spend a few weeks recuperating in New York before returning to San Francisco some time in August -- via airplane this time.
