This week's leftovers are packed with cranes, lanes, and runaway automobiles. Plus, free cookies. Don't worry -- we'll explain.
This morning at 10am, there's a public hearing to discuss the proposed Fell and Oak Bikeways. What are those, you ask? Well, the SFMTA is considering removing 80 - 100 parking spots, primarily on the south sides of Oak and Fell between Scott and Baker, and replacing them with separated lanes for bicyclists. Some of the lost parking spots would be recouped by converting parallel parking spots to perpendicular parking on nearby streets. If you have a strong opinion on this, consider attending today's meeting at City Hall, Room 416. This sounds like the last chance for public input before the approval winds its way up through the SFMTA and on to the Board of Supervisors, with implementation targeted for spring of 2013.
Tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 2:30pm, it's Play Day in Duboce Park, featuring the grand opening of the park's new youth play area. Highlights will include "two jumpy houses, live music, face painting, Disc Golf lessons, youth soccer lessons, a Zumba dance demonstration, a healing yoga class, live music, and a Hip Hop dance performance and lesson," plus free coffee, lemonade, popcorn and cookies, and speeches by Mayor Lee and Supervisors Olague and Wiener. OK, we're exhausted now.
On Sunday, you may notice a quaint little foot race winding its way along Hayes Street. Bay to Breakers is descending upon us. Prepare.
Reader Paul K. points us to a series of photos he's taken of the formerly-pink house at Waller and Pierce. Paul has been snapping photos about once a week to document the progress of the building's renovation, and will continue to do so until its completion. Which, from the looks of things, may not be too far off.
Meanwhile, reader Courtenay B. alerts us to an Atlantic article listing the best cities for new college grads. Topping the list is San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont (naturally), and the photo used is a Lower Haight street scene featuring crowds outside Mad Dog and D-Structure.
Twitter user @colinhthompson tweeted us this photo of the new AT&T cell towers finally being installed at 255 Steiner yesterday:

Finally, also on Twitter, yesterday @katie_mack alerted us to a truck having driven into the front of Upper Playground, leaving the following damage: Apparently it was a truck belonging to the crew working on the renovation of Haight and Fillmore just up the block. Not very neighborly of them, if you ask us.
That's all we've got this week. Tell us what we're missing. tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
