A mysterious noise, a lost-and-found cat, and a cheek swabbing for a good cause -- our leftovers are a little unusual this week, but no less satisfying.
Tonight, Berlin-Style Ping Pong returns to D-Structure. This one has an 80's theme, so expect lots of retro music and a best outfit contest, along with the usual drinks and good times. That's 8:30pm to 12:30am at D-Structure, $5 at the door.
Are you of full or partial Irish descent? A 5-year-old neighbor named Jake has been diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia, which basically means his bone marrow has stopped working, and he needs a transplant. Tomorrow (Saturday), from 11am to 3pm, swing by 306 Broderick in front of Faletti's/Nopalito, where they'll be doing quick cheek swabs to determine potential matches. Get more info at matchjake.org.
Tomorrow (Saturday) night, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, Cafe du Soleil will be hosting live jazz from HowellDevine. There'll be more jazz on Sunday night starting at 6pm. If you're a jazz musician/group and would like to perform at the cafe, they ask that you get in touch via their Facebook page.
On Sunday, Glass Key Photo (448 Haight) hosts a sidewalk sale from 11am to 4pm, featuring cameras and photo gear for sale. They'll also be buying/trading photo equipment, if you have anything you'd like to sell.
The Chronicle this week featured a profile of Maven mixologist Kate Bolton. Learn about her rise through the San Francisco bartending scene, and some tricks and tips for aspiring drink-slingers. (Did you know no cocktail at Maven includes more than three ingredients?)
Live near Duboce Park? Then perhaps you've been hearing a mysterious noise lately. Last night Twitter user @ryanchris wondered:
Meanwhile, you may have seen some signs around the neighborhood advertising a lost cat named Darcy who disappeared from a home on the 600 block of Haight Street on Wednesday. Last night its owner wrote with the good news that Darcy had returned. "We were freaked because he is such a primadonna indoor cat we didn't think he could survive two cold days and nights in the harsh wilds of the Lower Haight." The owner goes on to add:
Finally, need to smile? Check out Rooky Ricardo's owner Dick Vivian dancing on stage at Nick Waterhouse's record release party at the Verdi Club earlier this week:
