Lower Haight Leftovers: 6/8 Edition
A pop-up restaurant, a Cafe du Soleil update, the world's most expensive sundae and more -- it's an extra-tasty version of Lower Haight Leftovers this week. Let's get started.

Tonight, Underground SF hosts another epic party from the folks at epicsauce. There'll be a live set from Yalls and DJ sets from Avalon Emerson, YR SKULL, and epicsauce DJs. This free event -- yes, free -- starts at 9pm, and if you RSVP via this Do415 link, you get $1 Black Star beers from 9pm to 11pm. So, do that.
This week, Eater revealed its list of 50 nationwide finalists for the Young Guns 2012, its "annual roll call of the next guard – the most promising newbies in food, wine and hospitality, as selected by industry leaders." Only three restaurateurs from San Francisco made the list, and one is Stefanie Nudelman of Greenburger's. Congrats, Stef!
Want to start a weekly pop-up eatery in the Lower Haight? An unnamed local restaurant is offering to turn its space over to a pop-up operation on Tuesdays, any time from noon onward. You get seating for up to 30 diners, use of a beer/wine license, and more.
Meanwhile, 7x7's Marcia Gagliardi lists five favorite restaurants that deliver in San Francisco. Making the cut are a couple of local eateries: Wing Wings (422 Haight) and Thai Place II (312 Divisadero).
Reader Kathleen G. informs us that Bean There (201 Steiner) is hosting artwork by local children this month. She adds that "the kids would be thrilled" if anyone wanted to purchase their work. Hint hint.
The Chronicle posted an interview with Three Twins founder Neal Gottlieb this week in which he discusses the company's $3333.33 banana split, dubbed the "world's most expensive sundae." It includes syrups made from 3 "extremely rare" dessert wines, and comes with a cellist to entertain you while you eat. This is actually not the most expensive sundae the company has offered; there was the one served atop Mount Kilimanjaro that cost upwards of $85,000. No word on whether anyone has purchased either sundae (yet).
Ever feel like the N Judah is always late? Well, now you have some stats to back you up. A story by the Bay Citizen this week analyzes Muni's on-time performance data for the second half of 2011, and finds the N running late 36% of the time. The J was late 33% of the time, and the 22 Fillmore 29%. If these numbers seem high, take some solace in the fact that Muni systemwide was found to run late 27% of the time. So, we're just slightly slower than average around here.
Finally, you know how earlier this week we told you about Starbucks acquiring Bay Bread LLC, and how Bay Bread had just last Friday sold its stake in Cafe du Soleil to owner Mustapha Hakkou? And how, specifically, we wondered if the two transactions were related, and why Hakkou hadn't been notified of the Starbucks deal? Well. Yesterday, we received this statement from Bay Bread:
"We planned to divest our interest in Café du Soleil independently of the transaction with Starbucks. Unfortunately, we were unable to inform Mustapha that we were in talks to be acquired due to confidentiality restrictions as Starbucks is publicly traded.
So, there you have it.
That's all we've got this week. How about you? tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
