We're introducing a new feature here on Haighteration today: Letters to the editor. Today's letter comes from Andrew Resignato, candidate for District 5 Supervisor.

Political Door Hangers: We Can Do Better Like leaves from the trees, on your street, in your foyer, or on your door you have probably noticed, the large pieces of paper that mark the fall election season. Political door hangers have become the accepted way for candidates and ballot measure committees to get their messages to the people. Except, the more I have talked to people in SF the more I have come to realize what a public nuisance they are. They tend to be redundant, many times end up as garbage on the street, and even alienate people from the political process. My campaign has said no to door hangers by finding new, more creative, and more sustainable ways to reach voters and I challenge my fellow candidates to do the same. It is up to us to change the way campaigns are run and set an example that is less offensive to people but allows candidates to establish name recognition because in SF we can do better.
