Blind dates, chicken wings, a Muni shutdown and more. Indulge in a few scoops of news items that didn't quite make the front page this week.
Prepare for another weekend of Muni disruption, as the Church and Duboce Track Improvement Project again wreaks its transit havoc. From 7pm tonight until 5am Monday, the N will be completely shut down, with bus substitution between Ocean Beach and Church/Market. The J will be shut down between Embarcadero and Church/Market, and the 22 Fillmore will be rerouted. Also, expect occasional "loud noise" in the area.
Tonight from 5pm to 8pm, San Franpsycho (505 Divisadero) is throwing a happy hour featuring new artwork from Brennon Nunn. There will be giveaways, complimentary drinks, and "good times."
Meanwhile, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, the Harvey Milk Photo Center at 50 Scott Street presents an opening reception for their "81 Bees Pinhole and Plastic Camera Show," featuring works from 15 local photographers. If you can't make tonight's reception, the show will be on display through October 26th.
Also tonight, at 7pm, DSF hosts another American Tripps Berlin-style Ping Pong night. This promises to be the only one of the month, and will be a good chance to sign up for A.T.'s inaugural Ping Pong League (starting in October). Plus, DJs, drinks, and likeminded fun-lovers. That's 520 Haight Street, 7pm to 1am, $5 at the door.
Also tonight, just a reminder that it's the closing night of Jeremy Fish's "Where Hearts Get Left" show at Fifty24SF. The gallery (218 Fillmore) will be open until 9 or 10pm tonight.
Want to become a Lower Haight landlord? This 6-unit Victorian at the corner of Pierce and Waller (site of Aline's Closet) could be yours for a cool $2.25 million. (Thanks to @notkidding for the tip.)
Got an online crush that you'd like to take offline? This week 7x7 posted a piece dubbed "Five Places to Meet for a First Online and Blind Date," written by the incomparable Marcia Gagliardi (a.k.a. Tablehopper). Her picks include the Lower Haight's very own Cafe du Soleil, which Gagliardi describes as "a versatile place for any time of day." Indeed.
Finally, do you like chicken wings? Really, really like chicken wings? Then consider signing up for Wing Wings's first ever chicken wing eating contest. It'll be hosted on Tuesday, October 9th at Lucky 13, and will double as a fundraiser for the Western Addition Beacon Center. The contest will involve two events: who can eat the most angry korean wings in 10 minutes, and who can eat 10 hella hella hot wings the fastest. Right now they're looking for contestants.
