Here are some highlights from September in the Lower Haight.
There were plenty of local events in September -- the Duboce Park Tag Sale, Second Sundays, and plenty of D5 Supervisor candidate debates. Word also came of the Urban Air Market, which will hit the Lower Haight on October 20th. This month we said goodbye to Jeremy Fish's show at Fifty24SF, peeked into another fantastic backyard, and learned about the Local Electrical Workers Union. The neighborhood got a slew of new street art, including artist Mona Caron's utility box makeovers at Duboce and Church. A violent home invasion near Haight and Divisadero rattled our collective nerves. On the lighter side, we noted special Burning Man prices at the Divisadero Touchless Car Wash, we feared the mysterious giant pods at Duboce Park, and we cheered the return of the one-eyed limping Pirate Kitty. In celebrity news, the Lower Haight had at least two notable visits this month: Australian musician Gotye, and Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson. (Space Shuttle Endeavor also made a relatively close fly-by.) We learned of a new restaurant coming to Haight and Webster: Rickybobby. Some of our readers were upset that we dared inform them about Critical Mass's 20th anniversary ride. Oh well. And finally, we ended things with an update marking one year since the fire at Haight and Fillmore. So yes, a busy month indeed. Can't wait for the next one.
