Hitting Shelves Today: Blue Bottle's New Book
Today's a big day for a little Linden Alley coffee kiosk you may have heard about. Yes, it's Blue Bottle's first book -- and it's out today.

The book, titled The Blue Bottle Craft of Coffee, is packed with founder James Freeman's observations on everything from sourcing beans to the anatomy of an espresso grinder. There are even some great Hayes Valley anecdotes, including a tale about how one Blue Bottle menu item, the Gibraltar, was invented for employees of the nearby Dark Garden corset shop who found other espresso drinks too strong. Speaking of Hayes Valley, Freeman's wife Caitlin (Blue Bottle's pastry chef and the former co-owner of Miette), provides recipes for all sorts of edibles that go well with coffee, including Miette's famous macarons. There are also recipes from other SF luminaries that incorporate Blue Bottle coffee, like Chris Cosentino's Braised Boar Shoulder and Nopa's Blue Bottle Martini. We have a copy of the book we'll be giving away soon -- stay tuned for that. For now, congrats to Blue Bottle on the book release, and for nearly 8 years on Linden. If you've never had Blue Bottle, stop by the kiosk today and find out what all the fuss is about.
