Roundup: Halloween Events in the Lower Haight
Halloween may fall on a Wednesday this year, but all the really spooky fun is happening this weekend. Here's what you need to know.

This afternoon, the brewtruc beer garden returns to Church Street for Hallowtoberfest. As with previous brewtruc events, this one will feature a mix of music, beer, and mobile vendors, with entrance costing $5 -- or free with your purchase of four pints of beer. Today's event will also feature Stag Dining Group, who will be cooking up a menu including slow-roasted BBQ lamb shoulder, roasted sweet potatoes, and grilled artichokes -- you can help yourself to all three for $20. All this goodness benefits the Physicians Organizing Committee. That's 1pm to 6pm today behind the old Blockbuster at 160 Church Street.
Tonight, starting at 10pm, it's Mad Dog in the Fog's annual Monsters Ball. There will be DJs, fog machines, strobe lights, spooky cocktails (order yourself a "rabies" or a "mad dog blood"), dancing, and general madness. All this for no cover! The event runs from 10pm to 2am tonight at Mad Dog, 530 Haight Street.
If you're looking to get your jack-o-lanterning on, you've got at least two options. First, this afternoon, from 1pm to 4pm, there will be a pumpkin carving party in Duboce Park. You can bring your own pumpkin, or buy one on-site for $6. When you're done carving, leave your pumpkin and go enjoy the afternoon -- then come back to 1 Noe Street at 7pm to view all the carved pumpkins in their illuminated glory. This will all be followed by an 8pm game of Werewolves, which is a social game like Mafia, only with werewolves. For more info, check the Facebook event page.
Tomorrow (Sunday), Vinyl hosts its own annual pumpkin carving party. There will be prizes, drink specials, Halloween candy, and homemade pie courtesy of the ever-lovely Maggie. Plus, they'll be screening a slasher flick while you slash your gourd. This party is both B.Y.O.P. and B.Y.O.U. (pumpkin and utensils, respectively), and it's slated from 6pm to 10pm tomorrow night at Vinyl, 359 Divisadero.
You have a couple of days left to decorate your house, storefront, or window for our Haighteration Halloween Challenge. We'll be scouring the neighborhood early next week in search of the Halloweeniest scenes in the neighborhood. If you think your place is photoworthy, let us know -- tips [at] haighteration {{dot}} com.
Finally, what would Halloween be without some trick-or-treating? A neighbor asks us to remind residents to help parents out by turning off your lights if you're not home or don't want children knocking on your door. If you do want to be trick-or-treated on Wednesday, make sure to have some candy on hand, and give some sort of indication that your home is Halloween-friendly.
Know of anything else Halloweenish going on in the neighborhood this weekend? Let us know in the comments. MUAHAHAHA!!!! (cue ominous organ music, bats flying out of your screen...)
